It’s quite ergonomic, the lever is easy to actuate and so should be an excellent option for arthritic hands. The stainless exterior is good, no finish to get sticky over time like some grinders I’ve had. The ceramic mechanism performs well and should outlast me, my son and his too. I really appreciate and seek out good engineering. This one ticked all the boxes for me. It will be a welcomed addition to any kitchen.

My ratchet pepper AND salt ratchet grinder are always at hand when I cook. I appreciate the ease of using the ratchet handle for dispensing and the dial for adjusting the grind is very accurate and easy too. Combine that with quality look of the grinders and you have definite winners on your kitchen counter or at your table.

While it is definitely pricey, it is the best pepper grinder I have ever had: it is efficient, it does not spill pepper all over, and it is fun to use. And it's super convenient to put pepper in - just open a small window on its side (no need in screwing and unscrewing various parts). Oh, one little detail: I washed mine before using it, and it was a bit hard to get it to dry. I thought it was dry after a day or so, put the pepper in, and it came out as a wet paste. I tried to dry the insides with a napkin, and it was not a very exciting procedure, as the grinder does not really open up, and the only access to the inside area is the small window for putting the pepper in. This being said, I love having this grinder and using it in my kitchen.

I bought two of these, they should be great...when they aren't broken. Relatively easy to fill and easy to grind a lot of pepper, but I've bought two and both of them fell apart in my hands. First one lasted over a year then the washer that holds the spring in place came loose and I had peppercorns everywhere and metal pieces in my food. Second one barely made it three months with the same thing happening. Wasted money on the product and ruined two meals, never again.

Does a good job, easy to use, seems sturdy enough, although there is a slight wiggle in the interface between the top and bottom parts. It feels good in the hand(s), and is rather easy to adjust the grind coarseness.

On the right is the pepper grinder I bought 40 years ago. It still works great. Sadly the hands that work the grinder are working considerably less well than they did 40 years ago. On the left is my new ergonomically friendly ratcheting pepper grinder. So much easier to use. I loved my old pepper grinder, but after an injury this summer on top of the inevitable osteoarthritis that comes with age in my family, I have found that I need new tools to carry on with normal activities. I've found Kuhn Rikon kitchen tools to be very aging/injured/arthritic friendly. I don't know if this grinder will last 40+ years like my old one, but I was able to grind pepper into my soup just now without any pain. The green is very cheerful.

Bought the original for salt and liked it so we upgraded to the stainless versions at Christmas. Unfortunately the one we use for salt stopped working after 6 months…would not recommend. For the price it should last a lot longer.

I have been through countess pepper grinders that give up the ghost after just a few months. These have included brands such as Oxo Good Grips. I purchased the Kuhn Rikon Epicurean Steel Ratchet Grinder and have not looked back since - even my Mother of 91 who has chronic arthritis in both hands can use this grinder with ease. Perfect grinding - regardless of which setting you select (course or fine), easy to fill, easy to clean, a dream to use and yes - I am totally sold. I would say go for the Steel version - the other models are plastic and to be honest I would question their durability long term even though I have absolutely no experience of this so could be totally wrong - the choice is yours.

This is extremely easy to use, the ratchet type grinder means there is plenty of oomph to crush chilli flakes and peppercorns. I bought it to house the contents of a jar that had a twist grinder in the lid, which every time I used over a hot pan became clogged and by the time I'd finished cleaning the mechanism out I'd lost interest. This is a perfect replacement as it is solid and reliable, and I haven't had any clogging issues.If you are thinking of buying one of these, I hope you find this review useful!

Wir verwenden reichlich Pfeffer und mögen ihn je nach Verwendung mittel bis grob gemahlen.Nachdem unsere beiden alten elektrischen Mühlen vor kurzem aus Altersschwäche den Dienst verweigert haben, mussten wir feststellen, dass die aktuell erhältlichen batteriebetriebenen Mühlen nur noch mit 4 Batterien betrieben werden und deshalb für unseren Bedarf zu schwach sind.Alternativ probierten wir diese mechanische Ratsche aus und waren auf Anhieb begeistert!Das Mahlwerk kommt gut mit verschiedenen Pfeffersorten zurecht und lässt sich einfach von fein bis sehr grob einstellen.Die Handhabung ist kinderleicht. Auch größere Mengen Pfeffer lassen sich schnell mahlen, ohne die Handgelenke zu strapazieren. Und ums Aufladen oder Ersatzbatterien braucht man sich auch nicht zu kümmern.Dabei ist die Ratsche klein und handlich.Nachtrag: Inzwischen haben wir 3 von diesen Ratschen (1 für schwarzen Pfeffer, 1 für grünen Pfeffer und 1 für unseren Wohnwagen) und sindnoch immer sehr zufrieden.Beim aktuellen Kauf hätte ich mir allerdings gewünscht, dass das schwarze Modell mit Edelstahl und seitlicher Befüllung’ das es scheinbar leider nur in USA gibt, auch in Europa erhältlich wäre, da es einen noch hochwertigeren Eindruck macht.
