JHS Pedals Morning Glory V4 Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal, Gold

It just makes everything better.After watching a bunch of Josh's Youtube show, I really wanted to pick up something from JHS to try out. After hearing some Morning Glory samples, I immediately placed an order. Needless to say, it's the most used pedal on my board. I play it as an always on pedal, with almost everything set to 12 o'clock. I generally play a Fender Tele with a push/pull humbucker in the neck, and at all positions, this thing makes it sound great going into any amp. The impact is subtle, but it just sounds "better" to me. I typically will also always have on the BBE Opto Stomp optical compressor (the original version) before this in the chain, and the two of these play so nicely together, it's heaven. It doesn't matter what amp I hit: the tubes get nicely saturated, but all of my dynamics are there, and it's almost a physical reaction to the goodness.I will say that it can be a bit shrill if you don't tweak your mids, but it's a quick rolloff "set it and forget it" sort of approach. That's not even a complaint, just an observation. Also, I don't like running my Epiphone SG through it. As much as it's magic with my tele, it's meh with my SG.I also have the red switch for this, and I love adding that extra growl of overdrive that it provides, particularly in combination with some other pedals. Generally, this plays really nicely with other pedals. I particularly like running the Walrus Iron Horse into the front to get some double-the-fun tones.Overall, I couldn't be happier.

Functions well. It’s a Bluesbreaker style pedal with a bit of extras. Good build quality and sound.

This pedal sounds great. Amazing overdrive that lets your guitar tone shine. Flip the switch and get a more saturated overdrive. Would recommend getting JHS’s red switch along with the Morning Glory for easier toggling between the two modes of overdrive.

This is my favorite overdrive. I finally understand what transparent means. It adds just the right amount of crackle/breakup without changing your guitar’s tone. It’s a low/medium overdrive and has 2 different gain settings. Blue is a lighter gain and has less bottom end. Red setting has a bit more low end and a little more breakup.Despite some of the reviews I’ve seen, this pedal does not have a “fizzy” sound and it’s a quiet pedal. In fact, I don’t find there is any hum/noise to it.The controls are incredibly useful. The volume “floor” is very low. So you can get breakup tones without disturbing your neighbors. The gain is usable across the entire sweep. The tone control can be used to taper or add high end based on your guitar’s pickups.Overall, worth the money. There’s a reason why this pedal is popular.

If you love the sound of your guitar by itself and have a hard time finding a drive pedal that respects it and keeps it pure, this is the way to go. Most others tend to change the EQ rather dramatically, but this one only adds dirt to what is already there. Clean dirt, though, that makes your sound even better than it was before without reshaping it. Not only that, but both gain stages are useful and spaced apart sonically how you'd think they should be (in regard to volume and heaviness); because of this, I highly recommend the red remote if you play live. It stacks immaculately with other pedals, drive or otherwise, and is easy to use. Truthfully, I can't really find anything bad about it. Josh, the creator, is basically the Mr. Rogers of music equipment, and he killed it with this one. If you have the money, you should buy it.

It's as advertised, GREAT! It's more transparent and lighter OD than my other pedals (OCD, TS, Marshall Jackhammer...) which is great with my tube amps (Fender Super Six, Marshall Class5, AC4C1) because you get more native amp tone (IMHO). It is a lighter OD/Distortion pedal by design so don't expect it to be heavy distortion but it does a great job giving light break while letting your amp tone sing. I've also really enjoyed stacking it in front of my other pedals because the combo has created many new tone flavors for those as well. Well done JHS.

This is the most open sounding overdrive I've ever played. When I'm using ambient effects, I always have the blue setting activated on this pedal. The red setting just sounds awesome as well, it really blooms. Before you spend the money on this pedal, make sure that this is definitely what you need because it is quite a bit of money. Not to mention, if you want to remotely switch the gain stages with a footswitch you have to spend an extra $35 on JHS's "red remote switch." It's very clever of JHS to sell a separate switch in order to be able to use a feature on this pedal that, if you don't play live, you don't really need. However, I do play live so the red remote switch does come in handy. It is frustrating to have to spend more money after the initial $200 in order to be able to remotely switch the gain stages. So I would definitely make sure that, if you are considering getting this pedal, that this is absolutely what you want. If it is, it will be rewarding.

This pedal is exactly what my pedal board needed. Humbuckers, single coils, Filtertrons, it doesn't matter, they all sound good with this pedal. I got a great deal around Black Friday....$189 for the pedal and the red remote switch. I should have just bought this years ago instead of so many other pedals during my quest for the perfect tone. Just buy it!
